 A reed that already blows its own mellow C tone all by itself in neutral embouchure really, really helps a lot here, i've found B / Bflat / C# / D reeds play most awful C's, methinks because they're only semi-tone / tone intervals apart
 
 If need other reasonable help with all those imperfect reeds (yeah!) i've tried adding low C or Eb for extra resonance, depending on key signature, both work OK on my oboe, although i only add a resonance key on really exposed or long note C's in the music
