Another update:
I've now fitted a 3rd 8ve to the Signet, just for the sake of completion. While I was fitting the 3rd 8ve pillars and cutting the tonehole, slot and bedplace, I also reamed the top and bottom joint bores up to Howarth XL spec.
With several keys off the instrument, I've padded the remainder of what is there - so with some Blu-Tack blocking off the open toneholes (due to the keys being sent off for plating) I've been able to check the tone and intonation.
Obviously it's a much brighter and lighter tone than my Howarth S5 or any wooden pro oboe, but it's not a bad sound. I was able to get a two octave scale starting on D with the remaining keywork, so I have a good idea of how it will play once I get the altered keywork back on.
