"...on the upside, and a possible explanation of why Lorees remain popular in the U.S. among the pros (in addition to sheer inertia and blind brand loyalty (snobbery?), of which there is undoubtedly a strong dose), the American scraped reed permits the player to finely control the tonal nuances of the instrument..."
One of the other things (I think) the Lorees have that the other brands do not is the connection from note to note. I also agree with your thought regarding the nuances of tone.
And have I mentioned the keywork?? I love the keywork. Compared to the other oboes I have played it feels smooth as silk. At least mine does.
I believe as I stated before, Lorees can be tuned (to a certain extent) so the E,F, and F# become a non-issue.
I love my Lorees (AKs) and am not too interested in looking for other brands - at least not right now.
cjwright- a friend of mine has a Josef EH that is magnificent. Her Josef oboe, however is pretty run of the mill.
Here's a question for you all - if the oboes you try are so out of tune, why do you buy them? Just a little food for thought.
