Hey Mike,
From my knowledge a change of staple can influence the intonation of middle C and low G significantly. The English Horn principal of the Malaysian Philharmonic, Melanie Harel bought a Japanese Josef oboe last year which was beautiful but had a downside of an extremely flat middle C for some reason. After a suggestion from a close friend she tried Gvercio D12 staples, a copy of Klopfer from UWE Henze Germany. Now she claims to have solved all previous intonation problems she had, including a rather dull low G, fall octaves, also reminiscene of many Marigauxs. She has a gorgeous tone on both oboe and english horn, especially the latter. I never had the same problem before so maybe this will be able to help you, i hope. Gulp...
Regards,
Howard
