A follow-up: I've been using the Guercio d12 staples now for 8 months now, and playing the oboe has never been more enjoyable! It is amazing how different staples can affect reeds just enough to make the difference between pleasure and pain. In the intervening months I also tried Pisoni staples, hoping that I wouldn't have to order overseas staples, but I didn't find them as satisfactory.
I'm now no longer sure that the staples are helping me all that much with my flat treble-clef C, but I'm getting better at hitting it right more of the time. But I'm sounding more like I want to sound, and my reeds aren't closing up as much as they used to do with the Dunkel staples.
Why this follow-up now? The Mayer documentary reminded me, since I get the Guercio d12 staples from Germany.
