The low E is pretty stable; it's got the Loree low E tendency to verge on stuffiness. It's a pretty good test of how great (or not) a reed is, actually. I just noticed that when I depress Bb instead of B, the middle E is pretty much spot on and the tone is good (supported by good embouchure); however, it still sounds flattish to my ear, but I'm training it down! I'll do arpeggios with that fingering just to train my ear. The new horn is great; since I'm breaking it in, I'm trying to not overplay it, so I alternate...the old standby need a good thorough going over, springs, pads and all to see how great it can still be in its old age...I'll do that after I've got the new one broken in. It's fun to go back and forth. The old one is looser but the new one is smooth and the low register is a pleasure (i'm so used to compensating for weak springs and old pads!).
I can't believe you play 90% of your F#'s that way!
