I only started playing with a tuner regularly relatively recently (mostly because I came of oboe age during the era of tuning forks (you youngun's look it up on google!))...i find it very helpful, except for one thing...when tuning the A to 440, i know that my Loree oboe has the tendency to have a sharp middle E (i think this is congenital to Lorees and many other brands)...what's wierd is that when i play it in tune according to the tuner, i have to pull way out and it sounds way flat to me and the intervals to E don't sound right!! Is this just conditioning of my ear to my oboe or is this a function of equal tempered vs. some other tuning scale that sounds more natural (my E is anywhere from 3 to 10 cents sharp, and if I understand my music theory an E perfect fifth is only 702 cents away from the A!)? Does anybody else experience this kind of thing on the middle E or other notes (like flat low B/Bb)?
