... i wonder if it's worth it too, maybe this cigarette paper swobbing is a hangover from the past and nowadays we've lost sight of the probable basis for the practice?

seems to me these modern oboe pads are a lot more water resistant than the older model instruments which were padded with quite porous wood and leather, so additional pad swobbing would certainly benefit porous pads
