It is very sensible of you to gather opinions from as many people as possible so you can find what works for you. However, keep in mind that if your teacher is claiming to be an oboe teacher and doesn't start to address these things within a few weeks then you should be looking for another teacher. If your teacher doesn't claim to be an oboe specialist then they may be excellent on helping you with aural and theory skills and great at what a piece should sound like, but you will need to find another teacher to teach you how to play the oboe. I am possibly in a minority when I say that I believe you can have several different teachers. But I only say that because I also believe that different teachers teaching different things is possible. (Overlap would be a problem).

If you've been playing clarinet you might find that your embouchure is stronger than you thought. Make sure you are not crushing the reeds.

Hope you keep enjoying it.
