Interesting, Clarence, and Jim "Bucky!", perhaps if we chat enough, we can attract more "posters" to discuss the oboe family. Should that include the bassoons and other double reeds? Recently, our local music store had, via a trade I think, a Selmer, wood, Model 1xx I believe, Full Con. [basic] which I tried to evaluate for their sale, finally on EBAY I believe, maybe $600, quite a good-playing horn, however what skills I had, have gone toward my bass cls. They now have a plastic Noblet quite good also, for a student, and an old Conn wood, with several open holes, not for me!! Some 20 yeaars ago I bought, for our local symp. orch., a no-name wood cor anglais, obviously a French Loree-copy, with several resonances, adding their set-screws to make adjustments into a real chore. I played it on the Franck D minor, and Steppes of Central Asia [Borodin?], enjoying its tonalities, but it had a sharp top-of-staff E [concert A!!] giving me pitch problems! I generally played a wood Linton oboe, fairly good but loud! Just wanted to give you my minimal D R experience, to help promote this BBoard. TKS, Mark C, Don
Thanx, Mark, Don
