Thank you so much Dutchy for the informative message; I copied it out so that I could look at it later as well about the flats and sharps as I am not at a point yet where the finger placements are clear to me; I'm just on the beginning notes still; and my lips have basically quit at page three of exercises each time! I noticed a great time to quit for a while is when I'm just spitting wind...GRIN LOL
Thanks for the encouraging words about the sharps and flats, as I am also progressing through a Music Theory book which is helping me dramatically to understand these things better and better.
You realize that when one plays an oboe, now if it is almost three octaves, and there are 12 notes in an octave, that is close to 36 fingering positions, plus the alternate positions that might be possible with an oboe...so actually, I don't know how many possible positions there are to learn...
Therefore, knowing the sounds of the scales and the harmonies, etc., will make life much easier to retain it all.
