I think that you're giving very sound advice Dutchy. I've been taking lessons and
playing the oboe for five months now, and I've come a long way. I still sound like
a duck at times (most of the time), but I know it's not from my oboe. It's the player making the sound.....also the reed might contribute. I sound much better with Cooper's and my teacher's reeds.
I also like to hear an accomplished musician play my oboe so I can tell how it can really sound. I'm also motiviated by it.
So, Elkwoman, enjoy your oboe, and learn to play it. You'll probably know when you're ready to upgrade your oboe. I went the other way, and I bought a used Fox Renard 330 for almost $1900.00. Thinking that I'll be playing it for years (I'm still planning to do that). This instrument was also available to me at the right time so I took it. I was told that it was the best oboe in the store including new ones, and it probably was. I was also leery of buying online.
I'm still developing my embouchure, and I'm finally getting the air stream. I can tell that my tone is improving as my embouchure and air improve.
Anyway, I thought that you might benefit by hearing from someone new at the oboe too.
Have fun.
