Well explained. Haha...i guess the trumpet player IS sharp he ain't trying to compensate your flatness. Weird conductor. I don't really like conductors to get too all too technical on this kind of stuff, well, at least not in an amateur ensemble. I bet you will want to get the Menuhin edition of Goosens book on oboe playing. It gives a great idea not only on oboe technique but also ensemble intonation. It's a small book with everything, and don't worry, as far English as he is, he is an open minded player, and favours De Lancie a lot.

Not being in the scene of your ensemble, i cannot really see the whole big picture, but the fact that you ain't enjoying at all gives enough swear to me that you should have the right to leave. Anyways, how about the other oboe players? Do they get the same treatment everytime?

Again i am here to emphasize the importance of relative pitch training. I am happy to know that you aren't really relying on the tuner and you are listening to the whole ensemble. Things aren't gonna be good in a long run if the conductor keeps wasting time on single one on one pitching. It's a waste of time, doesn't last (after an hour of rehersal? I think practically everyone in the brass section would have been out of tune long before that!), and you won't really remember that A for that long afterall.

Do no tune, play music! Haha.....this was one of the quotes from a local band director of mine. Pitch sensitive people are good for conductors, but if they tune every note in every chord in every bar in the whole piece for the whole one hour of rehersal, i say it's high time he face the wall and think about it. So enjoy your last concert with them and hopefully you will fair much better with the other ensembles. Ta ta!
