OK folks, here's where it is at end of this afternoon's tinkering session
That was really helpful knowing what fingers to put down in what order on what keys to test paper things
Upper joint was always OK anyway, but have tightened F# G# by 1/4 turn, only difference now is paper has to be tugged out instead of pulled out (1/2 turn tore the paper)
Left / Basic F, Forked F / F res alone, and Forked F with F res + Eb all more balanced and sounding pretty much the same again, happy me
Eb less muffled, cap opens more fully
NEW thing -- when fingering F# to F something is clunking, closer examination it's the E key all by itself, D cap clunks up and down and the C pinky key bounces noisily
Low D balky, fuzzy, a push, terribly flat -- but now it's playing above C# instead of being the same as
low C# & C still same note, keys binding, neither bounce or release (have enough oil and springs are in place)
low C vent cap is loose, opens & closes simply by rolling the oboe left-wise or right-wise, but doesn't close securely
When pushing down low C key, F res vent pad hiccups up and down
either Eb key opens the low C vent
OH, please note my oboe doesn't have split D ring, low B/C link, no little extra Bb vent, it's 'modified' intermediate student conservatory
And, was i ever surprised to discover the low Bb pad closed before the B pad, never realised that before, hadn't had any particular trouble sounding low Bb -- except it's horribly flat and i've never been able to get it up enough, even with reed barely between lips at all -- but of course, poorly D & C isn't letting me play B / Bb flat just now
Isn't is amazing how many things go totally out of whack with these few adjustment screws? Loose low C cap for example, would never have believed that if hadn't seen it happen
SO what next ?
