To voboe: The relative adjustments for the E pad, the vent pad between the E pad and the F# pad, and the forked F resonance pad might need correction. First, test the tightness of the closure of the E pad (I use thin cigarette paper). If it does not close securely, then either the screw which closes the vent between the E pad and the F# pad is too tight, or the screw which controls the degree of closing of the F resonance pad when the E key is depressed is too tight. (Alternatively, the E pad might not be seated evenly; since that would probably require a repairperson, let's leave that possiblity unless nothing else works.) If the E pad does not close securely, turn the screw on the F resonance pad counterclockwise, to take that connection out of the equation for the moment. Now test the tightness of the closing of the E pad as compared to that of the vent pad above it when the E pad is depressed. Adjust the vent pad screw until they are as equal as possible, backing off the screw (counterclockwise) until the E pad seats securely, or turning it clockwise if the vent pad does not close securely after the E pad closes securely. If you cannot make them close evenly, then favor the closing of the E pad. Now do the same thing with the screw on the F resonance key, turning it clockwise until it closes securely without interfering with the secure closing of the E pad.
When adjusting the F resonance key pad, you have to be aware that you are also possibly affecting the closing of the low C pad. After the above adjustments, check to make certain that when the low C key is depressed, the low C pad still closes securely.
An alternate possibility is that the key which is depressed for D is sitting too low in its open position. This would probably also make the E foggy; but even if not, you might try raising it by turning counterclockwise the screw connecting it to the F resonance mechanism to see if that makes a difference.
And also a possiblity is that the pad which opens when the F (left or right) is depressed is not opening the optimal distance. There might be a little cork on the underside of the F lever which, if filed down a little, would permit a greater opening of the F pad. It is easy to return a little cork piece under the lever if the process is not beneficial.
Good luck.
