The step-by-step instructions which Chris offers are clear and useful, and I am certain that many readers of this bboard appreciate his generosity in taking the time to set them out. I recommend Carl Sawicki's "The Oboe Revealed", which has guided me through many years of adjustments on my instruments. The instructions do not vary much from Chris', and it offers clear diagrams.
Chris -- I was trying to assist a friend adjust his old Howarth english horn last night at a rehearsal, and found that the F resonance key was unlike any to which I am accustomed -- it had no mechanism that I could find other than a spring to make it close securely when the C key or the middle finger key is depressed. I made certain that the two screws present on the F resonance lever were not interfering with the closing, but could not get the pad to close tightly. Is a spring adjustment the only recourse to accomplish that?
