Hello everyone --
I had to send my good oboe in for repairs (guess "Oliver" was too much for it . . .) this week. It will be home soon, and I will be very glad to have it back.
In the meantime, I have pulled out my backup, which is an all-resin Loree that is 25 or so years old, but (last time I played it, last summer) in good shape.
It is balking like crazy when it gets the slightest bit of moisture in the bore -- becomes quite hard to blow and sounds thin (much like the sensation and sound you get when your reed dies). When I swab it out, it's good for, oh, 30 seconds, then fogs up again.
I've checked all the easy adjustments on it (the ones in the Sawicki book), and made a few tweaks, which helped, but not with this water issue.
I have no idea what else to try. The top joint passes the "pop" test, and the low tones play actually better than the top. The Bb and A are especially noxious.
Any help out there?
