I got a thumbrest cushion from Tom Ridenour (probably advertises on this board -- if not, Google will get you to him) that is really, really nice. It's made for clarinet, but works beautifully on the oboe. It fits over the existing thumbrest (I had to cut a little slit in mine to accomodate the strap eyelet), and drops down about three inches, so that it creates a slightly wider feel in the way the right hand grips the instrument. Much like a Dutch thumbrest, I believe.
Best part is the cost: $5.00
