I just remembered I left the wooden tenon covers on the Marigaux when I weighed it, as well as the XL! So it's playing (assembled) weight is probably nearer 710g. I'll weigh it again next week without the tenon covers.
The dual system Howarth S5 (full Gillet conservatoire with low B-C link) would be called an 'S5 Thumbplate'. The S5 oboes for the US market don't have the B-C link (but they can be ordered with a plastic top joint, as can any Howarth oboe or cor anglais - I've yet to see a plastic top joint oboe d'amore). Though I think there are more ex-pats living in Canada (as well as Australia and New Zealand) that still play either dual or thumbplate system.
The S55c oboe which was the full conservatoire student model made for the US market with a plastic top joint as standard has been discontinued. But any oboes and cors can be ordered with plastic top joints.
