hey!
had a busy evening today on other things, no oboe practice, and ditto busy next two nights, so won't be free to diagnose further suggestions until Friday, Thursday i'm going as audience to local symphony's Christmas special and expect the seasonal music to be uplifting & inspiring
summary of what i've got so far is a hard E, a soft F res vent when F# is the only key down, a firm F res vent when E is down, yes definitely yes the F res vent opens for forked F , and compared to basic F it sounds OK, and the little vent under F# is only a fraction firmer than the F res vent (when E's down) so that seems balanced ratio, and both are a bit softer when E's not down, but said upper vent is still a bit firmer than said lower vent then too
will have to check relative pressure on F# vent when doing E and forked F
ditto the E / C / F# vent combination
no Philly D on my oboe
also will have to check seal top joint, it did have a tiny fissure filled in within last 9 months
do i check all sides of the pad, no, i put paper under the entire pad and if the thing closes how it would normally, fingers down, and the paper won't pull out at all that's hard, if it closes and paper pulls out with a firm pull, that's firm and if comes out with a gentle pull, that's soft -- i figure if the middle holds, it's seated OK, anyway would a 2.5 yr old instrument get unseated this soon?
