I learned a trick for soaking reeds when you may not have time or place to soak on-site (such as when arriving for a rehearsal or gig).
You dip the reeds in water, swish around/up and down a couple of times, and remove the reed from the water with your fingertip over the staple end. Then put them back in your case. The finger over the staple end enables the reed to retain a few drops of water, and it will still be wet even an hour or so later.
I also use this technique when I am practicing and need to go do something else for a while. I can come back to practicing without waiting for the reed to soak!
