I would think that simple common sense would tell you that anytime you're keeping a wooden object permanently wet, it's going to rot. It doesn't matter whether it's a plywood sub-floor or a piece of cane--wet cellulose will rot.
My egg timer is only 3 minutes, so I've got the "5-minute" limit beat by 2 minutes. I don't see what the rush is, either--it takes me 3 minutes to get the thing assembled anyway.
