Try this trick as given to a bunch of us oboe young'ins at a John Mack masterclass.
Run the reeds under hot tap water, thouroughly wetting the reeds and put them back into your case. They are ready to play after a couple of minutes and you don't have to cart around a little primordial ooze contained in a film canister.
