Has anybody had something like this happen to them?
this DIY new reed wasn't sounding low D, C, and B, but delivered low C# and Bb no trouble at all, totally weird! i mean, there i was doing chromatics down-scale, low E was good but the aforementioned suddenly went hollow, even though Eb and C# played OK, weirdness!
my oboe's fine, other reeds are sounding low D, C, B etc OK -- that was the first thing i tried after this weird experience with those missing notes
i did discover the Bb pad was sitting a bit high and wasn't closing firmly together with the B key, had to press it just a bit harder to get the Bb, but it played OK, so don't think that wouldn't affect notes higher up? the vent's already open for them and the B / C keys closed their own vents OK no problem
only way to describe the 'missing notes', they sound hollow, like an echo
(is that same as 'airy'?) or an effect of two instruments softly playing same note together
reed was a tad stiffer (more resistant) than i'm used to, but it played well enough everywhere else, responsive in all registers, did top D and high D no sweat, but went hollow on low D (etc)
reed's so-so stable, have to lip upper octave F# & G down, they're somewhat bright, mid register is OK
have already tip-clipped and thinned it a bit more, so it's less resistant and now it plays low notes OK, but it sure was weird it just missed 3 notes and played the C# in the middle, i keep wondering about it, maybe it was just a flukey thing?
This is a new one for me, anybody else experienced something like this and can shed some light on it?
