The conservatory where I studied in the late 70's and later taught oboe in the early 80's had a Gordet English Horn and several student players there playerd Gordet oboes.
I even used their ehorn professionally and got the coveted orchestral ovation of shuffled feet for the ehron I played as a sub on occassion with the Richmond Symphony.
They were very good instruments then. I think modern oboes have evolved
quite a bit since then but for a student player a decent vintage Gordet would not be a bad move.
Send it or take it to a good player and have it adjusted and good things may happen for your son.
(I played a BenWal as a HS player and then used that oboe for three years in an Army band. Ben Storch was part of the group that made that good student model as well.)
