I've heard that around 30-50 years ago Gordet were among the popular French makes with US players alongside Loree, though I don't know much about them as I've never seen a Gordet oboe in the UK to make an accurate judgement on.
It depends on the mechanism - nowadays it's more important to head towards full Gillet conservatoire system (covered or plateaux keys) as all oboe makers do these as standard on their pro instruments, though a lot of the oboes used in the US over 30 years ago were ring key (open hole) conservatoire system. Do you know if this oboe is ring key or plateaux key?
Another thing teachers will want and are sometimes not fitted on older oboes is a left hand F key (or 'long F'), a forked F resonance key (or 'F vent')and the low Bb resonance key (or 'bell vent'). A 3rd 8ve key isn't of huge importance and the majority of intermediate and pro oboes have the 3rd 8ve key as standard.
