Carrie, I played a Gordet for many years. I bought it in the 1960s, and only replaced it a few years ago with a Loree.
Gordet's are good instruments. Ben Storch, who played oboe and English horn in a lot of New York orchestras -- he was in the City Center Ballet Orchestra in the late 1960s when I knew him -- arranged the manufacture of the the basic oboe in Europe and then reworked them to his specifications. I don't know all of the history, but there were some very interesting posts on a listserv a year or so ago. I wish I'd saved them. Probably one of the the best resources about the Gordet oboes and their history is Brian Charles of http://www.charlesmusic.com/
I would contact Brian and ask him more about the instruments.
All oboes are individual. There are good and bad Lorees as well as other, and as Chris P has so often commented here, much depends on how well the oboe has been maintained and how well it has been adjusted.
I hope that is helpful.
Walter
