Ah! I have good news to report!
The oboe is all better now. I pulled both octave vents and cleaned them as directed. The top vent (3rd octave) seemed pretty clean, but the lower vent (2nd octave) yielded all sorts of interesting little detritus. Replaced them, reassembled, and voila! An oboe that plays all the notes, all the time!
So, it was a pretty simple fix, after all. But this has been an interesting discussion, and I learned a few things!
Coop -- I'll keep you in mind, if I ever decide to sell it. However, the person from whom I bought it wanted rights of first refusal. And I don't have any intention of selling it, at this point. I bought it for a reason -- playing in cold pits and in 60-degree weather on the court house square. I actually had the opportunity, last fall, to buy another pristine Covey just like mine, but decided to keep the all-resin Loree instead (a decision I may come to regret, but, there you are.)
Thanks again.
Susan
