Just to add to the spring tensions.
On a lot of full Gillet conservatoire oboes, the bottom joint F# vent needs to be set to medium to heavy if the D#-E split ring has only the one spring for the inner bush (lower half). The F# vent will often have a short heavy spring fitted to it.
But (as on Howarth full Gillet oboes) if both the outer and inner ring are sprung, then:
F# vent - light.
RH3 outer ring - medium to slightly heavy.
RH3 inner ring - light.
