You definitely have got the idea of where the problem is. The vents were among the things I checked right away, when I first got the instrument out and realized that it had issues. I made some minor adjustment there, and it was better.
Since I posted, I blew out the register vents with air (took the keys off -- finding out, again, why they call those little blue things needle springs ), and it was good for a few minutes, but now the whole upper octave is resistant again, while the lower octave is playing very nicely (which it wasn't doing before). So, I think this has got something to do with the octave vents -- doesn't that sound logical?
I suppose once the other oboe gets home, this one has to go in for a checkup, too.
Aarrgghh!
