HAHAHA! I get told off for slapping down fingers by my teacher (she's originally from Minnesota, but moved to England in the early '70s to study here with Anthony Camden), especially hammering down RH finger 3 - and I'm also guilty of lifting LH 1 too high off the top plate as well.
She said to pratice rolling LH 1 off the perforation, almost as if your finger is held down with an elastic band so there's minimal movement.
But watch the pros with top orchestras - flying fingers galore! But I'm not using that as an excuse.
I do get tied up in knots, especially involving passages going around high C# up to high F and between the upper high register, and threaten to abandon Gillet conservatoire system altogether in favour of making myself a set of Saxophone system oboes.
The only plastic student oboes I know of from the '60s are Regents, though there might be the same instrument restamped as a Besson or Rudall-Carte.
