Reedmaking as a business is a tough one..

I have no time for doing things like entering all my orders in a database for taxes... I stay up late at night for that one.. Then there is the Sales and USE taxes that I must file, and keeping up with my staple and cane suppliers... and then doing the things that need to be done around the house with the kids. Then working on reeds.... my wife says I spend too much time in the reed room, and I do! Taxes were of course a challenge... I am an oboist, not an accountant!

I do not employ anyone.. All the cane must be prepared BEFORE I can do any reedmaking.. I make reeds and let them sit.. then they must be adjusted, and the next day RE-adjusted.. and some do not work. Then there is the cane that splits just before you put it in the shipping tubes...

OH, the weather.... reeds work here.. but not where I send them..Uggh..

That is only about 5 minutes of thoughts.. It is a tough gig... that is why few do it, and there are many MASS reedmakers selling horrid reeds that are not tested even by an oboist. There are a number of very reputable reedmakers out there.

I just posted some reedmaking videos on my site. It is always difficult to try to explain reedmaking to others, so that is why I did it. It is the way I DO IT.. It is not right or wrong, but my way. Many people have different knives, and ways of doing things. The PROOF in the PUDDING is when you are ONSTAGE and playing, and people love your sound and your abilities. After that, you decide for yourself if your reedmaking is RIGHT.

PS.. I do not mean to be rude to anyone... I will answer questions, but I always am truthful... I hope you understand that.. I do not have a lot of time on a BB such as this.. I have to make reeds!!
