Thanks for the info.

When I scrape, it becomes clear very soon the reed will not make the grade.
I mean in about 2 minutes, so they fail early and do not take much time, certainly not as much as good candidates.

Because I scrape the back and rough in the tip ( about 30 seconds) when I tie and open the reed, after letting it dry, it only takes me another 2 - 5 minutes to know if I have a reed or not.

Then, slight adjustments for two more dryng/playing cycles at about 5 minutes per 'candidate reed', ones I think will be pro-worthy and after that they tend to be reeds I would play in public.

My response, tone and intonation standards are pretty advanced these days and only those are what I play in public.
