I understand, I was not working with pre-teens while teaching oboe. Mostly, Jr. High and Hich School kids in our concservatory's community arts program.

I would not try to build a business around that but wanted to point out the experience my young students had and the remarkable progress they made quickly.

When I compare them after a year or two to my freshmen oboe students ( mostly music ed majors) I recall a world of difference I think related to solid forward progress earlier. Most college students spend at least a year, sometimes two, 'unlearning' bad habits.

So, for the lack of a few $25 reeds, a couple years college tuition instead ( or at least the oboe share of the tuition...)

I started oboe at 13, reedmaking the first year and had great reeds from a great teacher from the start. Later, experienced the store-bought stuff and am certain either I would have quit the oboe or at least not been able to pay my way through grad school on oboe skills if I had been remedial at college age.
