Oh you folks give me hope that I might get this thing back to playing half decent.

First, the only cork pads were on the three finger keys and I left them alone.

The low "C" pad was gone and I did replace it, and a few others that literally fell out when I took the keys off. I was careful to remove all of the old glue in the cups before replacing and adding the new pad-I did not use cork as replacement pads.

I did put little cork "silencers" on the spots where it had obviously had them originally, but all that was left was a bit of glue as a tale-tell sign they were once there. It is certainly possible that these cork bits are too thick.

I'm certain that the pads are not seated correctly. I'd searched this site, but was unable to find how to check. Now that I know to check all the way around I'll do that. I used "pad cement" that softens with heat. When I find spots that are not even do I just carefully heat the key a bit and press the key while the glue is soft??? I don't know how to correct the seating.

I've checked and double checked the Bb and C vents on top, thinking that they were perhaps part of the problem. But, I suspect that part of the problem with the horn as a whole is that it does have a leaky top. I checked that when I read the "weird reed" thread and it leaks like a sieve. All the pads on top are in as terrible shape as the bottom, really ratty and old.

Well, y'all have given me more to work on tomorrow when I get back from the day job. Thanks.
