Wow Steve...that's exactly how I feel. I swear reed strength really helped. On the medium soft, I could get a nice tone but felt like I had to keep juggling my embouchure and breath to maintain the tone. Now, with the medium reeds, tone, dynamics, pitch...seem to just come back to me.
Really cool you play the guitar. Always wanted to learn but stringed instruments baffle me for some reason. I've got a folk harp (the vertical kind) that I tinker around with but it's difficult for me.
As for prices of oboes, I simply couldn't afford anything but the Barrington. And since I'll never be a pro...I can't justify spending more just to play for my own satisfaction.
