Hi Ren
that must have been a very interesting masterclass at your school, to have the opportunity to see Mr Klein in action, and to be able to pick his brain about all things oboe. Dystonia is potentially a career-destroying condition. Two of the flautists in my band have it, one of whom has had the best part of nine months sick-leave doing splint therapy on his two affected fingers. One finger seems to have made a full recovery, and the other is most of the way there. Of course, it remains to be seen if the demands of full-time rehearsals and concerts set him back, or not.
It speaks volumes about the character of Mr Klein that he has not let it hold him back, and does regular concerts and workshops to pass on some of his brilliance to another generation!
ps: I'm very curious to hear him play this Paganini Caprice, complete with double-stops. It would be interesting to see how did that.
James
