Re focal dystonia. I have some knowledge of that, having suffered it first on violin and more recently on horn. I don't play violin any more but did overcome it in time, and I developed it on horn just two years ago, and lost a year in recovery, which is continuing. I have learned an immense amount about dystonia since the horn episode (no one knew what was going on back when I had it on violin) and what it is and is not, and also what path can be taken to overcome it if one has the patience. I personally would never, ever, touch something like botox. Botox may be needed for the type of dystonia that makes it impossible to eat or severely interferes with normal life, but I can't imagine its helping one regain the ability to play an instrument.
