Very cool..an oboist who talks like a Beatle?!
Stefan Schilli is a very impressive oboist...I own his 2 CD Vivaldi set, and while I don't love it quite as much as Alex Klein's supercharged Vivaldi CD (which you can get on amazon pretty cheap these days, for a long time it was really tough to get; it's really the musical equivalent of an adrenaline shot), the Schilli is very polished and beautiful playing at a bargain Naxos price! I love the dark German tone quality (in some ways I think it's the closest living descendant of the old baroque oboe sound, at least as I hear it on period recordings with those round full notes). They say that Tabuteau's American school and American reed scrape were designed to combine French flexibility with that darker German tone.
