Just to play friendly devil's advocate, don't these two statements contradict each other? I could see otherwise if you make really long reeds, i guess. One of the advantages of tying a shape like Josh + 2 at the recommended length of 72.5 is that it takes a lot less scraping to get to the finished reed length. (FYI, I use a fatter shape that ties at 73.5-74 and it always aggravates me that my best finished reeds end up at about 69...that's a lot of wasted scraping, though if it's an advantage my tip is nowhere near the fold. In fact, I'm considering going to a J+2 partly for that reason!)
