Yep, top of fold is flush with top of ears. I also pare both sides of the folded cane from the top down until the folded end just fits between the ears. It is what David recommends. This way the cane lies flat against the flat face of the shaper tip. With the Joshua +2 (my favorite shape) I tie at 74 mm. Same paring & top of fold flush with tops of ears. I've heard this from no less an authority than John Mack, who told me to start doing this several years ago at his Hidden Valley (Carmel Valley) master class in California. He claimed that this yields up sides which have a greater parallel section, tip of reed to just below the heart, thus resulting in more constant pitch.
