Yeah, Woody -- I think you are talking about the second movement (Columbines). That is SUCH a gorgeous movement, with much lyrical oboe work, but we didn't think we (five strangers) could get it togther in four days' time. I find that less-structured stuff (like the Columbines) is more difficult to do well, actually, than highly rhythmic things like Maroon Creek (1st movement) -- even if it is "sprung" rhythm.

And you are right, the low sequence in Columbines is even worse than the sequence in Maroon Creek. Requires either super-slippery fingers, or the banana key. But it only happens, as you say, once.

Normally, I don't have all that much trouble with the low tones (she says softly, not wanting to anger the low-note trolls), but they are the first to go when anything gets out of adjustment -- which was constantly the case last week.

Ewazen either loves or hates oboists. I haven't figured out which, yet. But everything of his that I have heard is 1) tough on the oboist and 2) amazing music.
