The warm up is more for you - not the oboe. (Though it too does need to be wakened from its sleep) It's better to always warm-up regardless of temperature. It helps prepare your muscles for the tasks ahead, and - this will be a little philosophical here- brings your mind and body together as one. Seriously!

It also helps for endurance. The lack of warmup could have been one of the causes of your crash in wind ensemble - not just an untrained embouchure alone. If I don't warm up, my 3-4 hours of practicing gets cut to 1-1.5 hours, simply because my lips give out. I cannot say quite why this happens, except that perhaps the muscles involved in playing get too much of a load too soon, which exhausts them sooner.
