Thanks guys,
It did come to mind that it could be resold later if necessary. Every instrument does have it's own personality, and it is a professional oboe. The oboe player from the show and I had a chat about it after the show. Apparently her oboe was recommended by the second oboist of the Philadelphia orchestra to her. She's a computer programmer, but has toured as and oboe player in musicals in the country when she got out of college. She plays in community bands, but she doesn't make her own reeds. As a new oboist, I respect her opinion. She is successful in the field. And I tried her oboe, and enjoyed it, but I wasn't able to try it here, so I'm not sure how it would compare in a "dry" room. The auditorium added decidedly more resonance to the instrument than many other situations.
