Hi Dutchy --
Your idea of where to place the "groupette" could use some revision. Look at p. 10 of the section in Barrett which begins with "The Oboe", after all the "Articles" at the beginning of the book (it is not page 10 of the book -- it is hard to understand the organization of Barrett in this regard). There the groupette as intended in Barrett is illustrated at occupying the full value of the first note, rather than being placed on the second half of that note.
I learned most of the Barrett at a beginning level, and did it slowly. Later, at a more advanced level, I learned it again at tempo. Barrett offers plenty to learn at either level, so just take it at an even tempo which is comfortable for you to begin with, and work it faster when you can.
