Barret No. 27 is marked Allegro, dotted half = 76. So what do I set the metronome at? I thought a metronome speed was always given in quarter notes equalling a tempo. If a dotted half note is the same as three quarter notes, and 3 x 76 = 228, obviously that's not "Allegro", that's "Entering hyperspace lightspeed". So what am I missing?
I don't own a metronome yet, I'm using the online one, and it doesn't have a way that I can see to tell it "set yourself for something other than quarter notes".
Also, there are two identical gruppettos in this piece, the phrase is quarter notes, D2-F2-B2, with the gruppetto marked between the D and the F. I understand that I'm supposed to divide up the D2 into two eighth notes, and play the turn during the second eighth note, in other words, the turn happens during beat 1-And, and it's composed of 4 thirty-second notes, being E2-D2-C#2-D2. The problem is that in order to fit those four notes in there, I have to play at something closer to Adagio than Allegro. So, again, what am I missing? Is it "understood" that you slow down a turn, so as to be able to fit in all the notes, or what? Or do I just have to wait until my Flying Finger skills kick in at about Year Eight?
