The lower 8ve pad will also get compressed just by being put back in the case. Look at the marks on the lid cushion and you can see the case lid is squishing the lower 8ve pad due to the adjusting screw bearing down on it, leaving a dent or a hole in the lid fabric where the adjusting screws are.
