Bobo, regarding the sticky first octave key:

Obviously ChrisP's advice is spot on to fix the problem, but it may be indicative of aggressive use of the 2nd octave key. That is, if you press the 2nd Octave key too hard you can wear a groove into the first octave key pad with time. This is then much more likely to stick than a relatively flat pad.
Maybe replace or sand down the octave key pad, and then concentrate on using a light pressure on the second octave key?
