I've used sweet almond oil exclusively for a bore oil the past 25 years at the suggestion of an old teacher.
I did follow Covey's breakin advice religiously, and suspect that probably helped safe-guard my oboes from cracks, but using sweet almond oil on 3 new oboes, 1 Loree and 2 Covey's plus my Loree english horn seems to have worked well.
I lived in Md, Va, Fl, and Co, so had a lot of different seasons and both high humidity and cold dry winters to deal with.
I think Naylor's organic oil uses sweet almond plus some others, from what I recall.
What else are people using for bore oil?
