I have never oiled my Loree - I decided not to when I bought it 21 years ago. I *always* keep a humidifier in the case though, and even when I'm not playing regularly I make sure it stays at good humidity. When I was in grad school a bunch of us had newish oboes, and mine was the only one that didn't crack. While luck certainly played a part - I was also the only one who regularly humidified my oboe (this was in Ohio).
